It is time again to dust off your helmet, lube
your chains, and inflate your bike tires. As part
of the Mason Valley Boys and Girls Club Fund Raising
events, the Third Annual Tour de Cebolla (say-bo-yah)
will take place Saturday morning, July 26 at 6:00
AM. The Tour de Cebolla is a noncompetitive bicycle
ride for adults 18 years and older.
The ride will begin and end at El Alteno Mexican
Restaurant, 516 South Main Street, Yerington.
Riders may assemble at 5:30 AM and the ride will
begin promptly at 6:00 AM with registration closing
at 7:00 AM.
The Tour de Cebolla will once again feature two
routes. The Tour de Cebolla Corto (short ride)
is 28 miles and the Tour de Cebolla Largo (long
ride) is 61.5 miles (see map). The 61.5 mile route
takes riders through Wilson Canyon to Smith and
returns to Yerington, with several climbs. Bicycles
with sufficient climbing gears (three rings) are
recommended.
Bicycles must be in good working condition and
all riders must wear ANSI/SNEL approved safety
helmets. Ride speeds will range from 8 to 20 mph.
Limited rest/water stations will be provided.
The cost for participating in this fund raising
event is $25 for the short ride and $35 for the
long ride. For an additional $10, participants
may receive a post-ride breakfast with a non-alcoholic
beverage at El Alteno. Participants will receive
a memorial t-shirt and a baseball cap. Participants
may register at Silverado Ranch Supply, UNCE Extension,
El Alteno, and Mason Valley Boys and Girls Club.
Participants registered by July 18 will receive
a t-shirt and ball cap the day of ride. Registration
will be available after July 18 and the day of
ride but late registrants must wait two to three
weeks following the ride to receive a t-shirt
and cap.
